Facilitators

Starting A DBS has never been so easy!

Today, you have access to tools that make facilitating a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) simple and effective. We’re here to support you in taking those first steps and to help you develop and grow your Discipleship Group with ease. Learn how to get started below.

What You Need To Start an DBS Group?

A desire to reach people in your community

Friends, Family, Neighbors and anyone else we engage with can be part of our own community.  If you want to go deeper than just “Small Talk” with the people in your circle, starting a DBS Group is a great way of discovering how God works in practical ways to positively impact our lives.

A safe place to meet

Whether you decide to explore an inperson or online group, choose a place or platform the participants can feel safe to meet at without fear of expressing their thoughts and opinions.

A proven method that is easy to implement

Used by thousands of groups all accross the globe, the DBS method of exploring Gods word has been proven to provide a platform that people respond to as they are seeking to understand how the Bible practically applies to their lives.

DBS – Basic Implementation

The following steps are designed to help you get your own group started and to provide you with the resources needed to develop and grow your Discovery Bible Study (DBS).

Make it your goal to be a “facilitator.” Your role is to engage the group and encourage participants to take ownership of their learning by reading the Bible for themselves. This isn’t a platform for deep theological debates or controversial discussions; rather, it’s an opportunity to nurture a learning process where individuals can discover how God can practically impact their lives. By creating a space for exploration, you invite others to experience the transformative power of Scripture in their everyday journeys.

Step #1 Location

Local In Person DBS

Choose a place where your group can comfortably gather on a regular basis. This could be a public location like a park or restaurant, or even someone’s home. It’s important to select an area where distractions are minimized, allowing for deeper engagement. Remember, it doesn’t always have to be about “studying the Bible.” Incorporating meals or game nights alongside your Discovery Bible Study (DBS) can help participants feel more connected and at ease. Just ensure you have a plan to weave the DBS into your gathering, creating a space for meaningful conversation and exploration of faith.

Online DBS

There are several online platforms that can effectively facilitate a Discovery Bible Study (DBS), and we highly recommend using Zoom. Most people are already familiar with navigating Zoom, making it a user-friendly option. It’s a safer, more secure platform with fewer distractions, which can enhance your group’s experience. Plus, a Zoom account is free as long as your sessions stay under an hour. If you find you need more time, you can easily sign up for a small monthly fee. This flexibility allows you to focus on what truly matters: exploring God’s Word together.

 Step #2 Time

Regular Scheduled Time

Choose a place where your circle can comfortably gather on a regular basis.  It can happen at a public location like a park or restaurant or in a persons home. Try to make it in an area where your group won’t get distracted too easily.  It doesn’t have to be all about “Studying The Bible”.  Getting together for a meal or game night that includes DBS is a great way to get those that participate to feel more connected. Just make sure you have a plan to include the DBS in your gathering.

Flexible Time

There are several online platforms that can effectively facilitate a Discovery Bible Study (DBS), and we highly recommend using Zoom. Most people are already familiar with navigating Zoom, which makes it a convenient choice. It’s a safer, more secure platform that offers fewer distractions, enhancing the experience for your group. Plus, a Zoom account is free if you keep your sessions under an hour. Should you find that you need more time, you can easily opt for a small monthly fee. This flexibility allows you to focus on what truly matters: exploring God’s Word together in a meaningful way.

 Step #3 DBS Discussion

#1 Prayer and Worship

  • What are you thankful for this week?
  • What has been causing you stress lately, and what do you need to cope with it?
  • What needs have you noticed in your community?
  • How can we collaborate to address those needs together?
  • Have you made any changes in your life as a result of this study?

#2 Accountability

  • Did you have a chance to share the story with someone this week?
  • Were you able to meet any of the needs we discussed last time we gathered?
  • How did that go?
  • Have you made any changes in your life based on our previous discussions?

#4 Scripture

  • Have members of your group read the selected passage of Scripture.
  • Invite someone to recount the passage in their own words, and encourage the group to identify any other significant aspects of what was read.

Possible Options:

    • 7 Miracles in John

#5 Reflection (5 Questions) Ask each time your meet

  1. What does this passage reveal to us about God?
  2. What insights does this passage offer regarding humanity?
  3. If we truly believe this passage, how should we be changed?
  4. Who do we plan to share this with before our next meeting?

DBS – Conclusion

Ask when the group would like to meet again.  Not asking for a long term commitment, just select a time that works or the group.  It really is just that simple.
